The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMA, and FCT Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has urged newly inaugurated cabinet members to embrace purposeful leadership, commit to swift service delivery, and work tirelessly to improve the lives of residents across the Area Council.
The Chairman gave the charge on Friday, July 10, 2026, while declaring open a two-day strategic retreat for the new cabinet members at Sky Age Hotel in Keffi, Nasarawa State, according to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Madaki, and released over the weekend.
Describing the workshop as a critical platform, Hon. Maikalangu said it was designed to prepare appointees for the enormous responsibilities ahead. He stressed that the retreat was not a celebration, but a solemn call to align with the administration’s vision of responsive, people-centered governance.
“The expectations of our people are high,” Maikalangu stated. “Every appointee must remain laser-focused on delivering tangible, measurable results within the limited time available.”
Reminding the cabinet that political appointments carry a sacred public trust, the Chairman urged them to avoid bureaucratic delays. He tasked them instead to engage directly with local communities, identify grassroots needs, and ensure that every policy translates into meaningful socio-economic development.
He further demanded absolute discipline, teamwork, and mutual respect among appointees. He warned against internal rivalries and territorial conflicts that could derail the administration’s goals, and advised members to focus on their portfolios while maintaining a collaborative spirit for collective success.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability, Hon. Maikalangu said performance assessments would be strictly merit-based. “Every cabinet member will be evaluated on impactful service delivery and verifiable achievements, not on rhetoric or personal loyalty,” he warned.
He concluded by urging participants to use the retreat to develop practical and innovative strategies that will accelerate development and fulfill the administration’s promises to the people of AMAC.
