Former President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, unity and compassion as essential ingredients for national renewal in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir. He made the call in a message signed by Ezrel Tabiowo, Media Adviser to Senator Lawan.
In the personally signed message, Lawan congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Yobe North Senatorial District, across Nigeria and around the world on the occasion. He described the celebration as a time for reflection on faith, obedience and total devotion to God.
The senator representing Yobe North said Eid-el-Kabir draws inspiration from Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in submission to divine instruction. He noted that the festival underscores the need for both leaders and citizens to place national interest above personal ambition and material gain.
“In the sublime act of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to offer his dearest possession, we find an enduring metaphor for our national journey,” Lawan stated. He added that the act teaches that the path to a greater collective destiny is paved with sacrifice, faith and submission to the will of the Almighty.
Lawan called on leaders at all levels to prioritise the unity, peace and progress of the nation through selfless service. He said sacrifices made by those in positions of authority would advance collective national development and restore public confidence.
The former Senate President also urged Nigerians to reject tribalism, divisive tendencies and all forms of sentiment capable of undermining national cohesion. He stressed that unity remains critical to overcoming the country’s challenges.
He further encouraged citizens to emulate the virtues of compassion, patience and steadfastness exemplified by Prophet Muhammad, SAW, Hajar and Prophet Ibrahim. According to him, these values are needed to strengthen social bonds and foster mutual understanding.
Lawan appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other national leaders amid the country’s prevailing challenges. He said prayers and perseverance would help steer the nation toward stability.
“Let us remain steadfast in our prayers for our President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as our leaders and institutions, trusting that through perseverance and faith, Nigeria’s season of renewal is within reach,” he added.
