Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced a 20-day project commissioning marathon across the Territory next month to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Wike disclosed this on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, while briefing journalists after inspecting judicial, residential, and road infrastructure projects in Abuja. The announcement was contained in a press release issued by Hajiya Rabi Musa Umar, Deputy Director, Press, Office of the FCT Minister.

“What the people want is to feel the impact of governance. Indeed, Nigerians are not interested in ethnicity or religion. What they are interested in is good governance, and we have provided it,” the Minister said.

He emphasized the administration’s deliberate push to extend infrastructure beyond the city centre to long-neglected satellite towns and rural communities. “This is the first time they can really know that there’s a government in FCT, not just within the city, but going to the satellite towns,” Wike stated.

Citing the Wasa Informal Sector site for the relocation of Apo Mechanic Village as an example, he said access roads and streetlights at Wasa are fully operational, while work on water connection, a dedicated police station, and staff quarters is ongoing. “That is what you call governance,” he added.

Providing updates, Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, noting that contractors had kept their promise to deliver by the end of May. The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, is at 98% completion, with courtrooms furnished and cooling systems active while final touches are underway.

He also said the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, comprising residences for justices of the FCT High Court, Federal High Court, and Court of Appeal, are fully completed and furnished. Foundations have been set for the Industrial Court residences and the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Other completed projects include Collector Road CN2 in Katampe with functional streetlights, and the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway Stage 2 connecting Apo to Wasa District. The bridge is completed, streetlights are being installed, and the final asphalt wearing course is being laid.

Wike said the 20-day commissioning will cover major rural interventions, including satellite town water schemes in Karu and Bwari, the Gbazango and Arab roads in Kubwa, and the 15-kilometer Gomani-to-Yangoji rural road project in Kwali. He expressed hope that the President would commission at least one of the satellite town roads.

Responding to questions on the judiciary, Wike said the administration’s approach is comprehensive and multi-sectoral, with water projects for rural areas and renovations in primary and secondary schools ongoing across the FCT. He added that the visible impact of governance reflects a change in the Territory, citing the ruling party’s win in the Presidential Villa during the recent Area Council elections as an example.
