The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Education Resource Centre (ERC), has restated the importance of effective examination monitoring as key to credibility, standardisation, and smooth conduct of tests across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The ERC Director, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, led a monitoring team on an inspection tour of selected examination centres. The exercise was in line with ERC’s statutory mandate of promoting quality assurance and maintaining standards in exam administration.
The team monitored the Nigerian Defence Academy Screening Test, (NDAST), for admission into the 78 Regular Course, conducted as a Computer-Based Test. It also visited the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination at the Kubwa Centre.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Abdulrahim said ERC coordinates, standardizes, and monitors all examinations in the FCT to ensure compliance with approved guidelines and best practices.
She explained that the monitoring focused on adequacy of examination materials, availability of qualified invigilators and supervisors, adherence to procedures, and overall preparedness of centres to guarantee credible and seamless exams.
According to her, ERC has consistently monitored the NDAST over the years to ensure registered candidates write the test in a conducive environment. She added that FCTA, in collaboration with the media, remains committed to sensitising candidates and the public.
Dr. Abdulrahim described effective monitoring as indispensable to quality assurance in education. She said it safeguards exam integrity, promotes transparency, and strengthens public confidence in the assessment process.
“The Education Resource Centre remains committed to ensuring every examination in the FCT meets acceptable standards. Through our monitoring, we assess compliance, identify areas for improvement, and provide support for successful conduct,” she stated.
The Director expressed satisfaction with compliance levels at visited centres and commended examination officials for professionalism and candidates for orderly conduct. She credited FCT’s record of success to the FCT Administration’s commitment and collaboration by education stakeholders.
Dr. Abdulrahim also commended FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike and the FCT Education Secretariat for sustained support to quality assurance. She reaffirmed ERC’s commitment to sustaining monitoring and collaborating with stakeholders to promote excellence, accountability, and integrity in FCT examinations.
