All is set for the Igbo Community in Idu-Koro, host of the Idu Industrial Area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to install a new Onowu this Sunday.
The installation ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2023, will see Chief Peter Nnaji conferred with the traditional title of Onowu to the Igbo traditional ruler in the community.
According to the Igbo Community Assembly (ICA), the title will be conferred on Chief Nnaji, the Afunwa Elotenna 1st of Akpugo Nkanu in Enugu State. The decision was reached in agreement with the community association.
The Onowu is regarded as the second-in-command to the Igbo traditional ruler in Idu-Koro. The community is under the rulership of Onyendu Ndigbo, Chief Judge Igwe.
Speaking to journalists, Onyendu Ndigbo, Chief Judge Igwe, commended Ndigbo in the area for producing a worthy title holder. He said the new Onowu is expected to uphold the rules guiding Igbo traditional titles.
He noted that Ndigbo are known for promoting culture and tradition, and urged other tribes to emulate the commitment of the Igbo people to preserving their heritage.
In his response, Chief Nnaji expressed appreciation to Ndigbo for finding him worthy of the position. He pledged to promote Igbo culture and tradition not only in Idu-Koro but across the FCT.
Concluding, the Onowu-designate prayed for peace, unity and love in Nigeria. He described the event as one for all sons and daughters of Ndigbo and called for a peaceful and successful ceremony.
