The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Chairman of the FCT Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended the Igbo community in the Federal Capital Territory for its growing political consciousness, unity and commitment to inclusive leadership.
Maikalangu made the commendation at a grand reception organised in honour of Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, describing the gathering as a powerful reflection of political maturity, unity and the determination of stakeholders to promote effective representation for the people of the FCT.
The strategic political consultative gathering, hosted by the Chairman of the Igbo Council of Chiefs, FCT, Dr. Uche Egenti, attracted prominent political leaders, traditional representatives, community stakeholders and supporters who came together to celebrate Senator Aduda and rally support for his anticipated return to the Senate in 2027.
The ALGON Chairman attended the event alongside his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emeka Orji, and the Supervisory Councillor for Education, Hon. Obiora Arinze. Senator Aduda was also accompanied by the FCT APC State Chairman, Hon. Isyaku Tanko Yamawo, as well as the Executive Chairmen of AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada and Kuje Area Councils.
Also in attendance were APC House of Representatives candidates for Abuja North and Abuja South, alongside other party leaders, political actors and community stakeholders who added their voices to the call for stronger collaboration and strategic representation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the occasion, Maikalangu said the gathering demonstrated that residents of the FCT increasingly understood the importance of unity, political participation and strategic representation. He particularly highlighted Senator Aduda’s extensive relationships across communities and his longstanding connection with the people.
According to him, “Senator Philip Aduda has built relationships across communities and has remained connected to the people. His experience, accessibility and understanding of the FCT make him a strong voice for our people.”
Maikalangu also paid glowing tribute to the Igbo community for its enormous contributions to the growth and development of Abuja, noting that Ndigbo had remained an important partner in the economic, social and political advancement of Nigeria’s capital.
“The Igbo community is an integral part of Abuja. You have contributed tremendously to the growth of our city, and today’s gathering shows that you are not only stakeholders in the development of the FCT but also active participants in shaping its political future,” he said.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027, Maikalangu urged political leaders and community stakeholders to embrace peaceful engagement, unity and inclusive politics, stressing that the strength of the FCT lies in the diversity and cooperation of its people. He commended Dr. Uche Egenti and the Igbo Council of Chiefs for organising the reception, describing it as an important platform for dialogue and consultation, while the event ended with participants expressing confidence in Aduda and pledging support for his return to the Senate.
