The Northern Senators Forum has thrown its weight behind the newly installed 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate, His Royal Highness Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, PhD, congratulating the Government and people of Jigawa State while expressing confidence in the new monarch’s capacity to lead the historic emirate.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Forum described the new Emir’s ascension as an important development for Gumel Emirate and extended its goodwill to the people of Jigawa State on the commencement of a new chapter in the emirate’s traditional institution.
The senators, however, paid tribute to the late Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, who passed away after an extraordinary 45-year reign. The Forum said his tenure was defined by service, peace and devotion to his people.
The Forum expressed particular appreciation to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, for his support and participation in the delegation’s visit, describing his involvement as significant to the successful engagement with the people of Gumel.
It also commended Senator Babangida Hussaini, Walin Kazaure, for hosting and facilitating the delegation’s visit on Friday, September 11, 2026. The Forum extended its appreciation to other senators, traditional leaders, elected representatives and eminent Nigerians who joined the condolence visit and welcomed the new monarch.
According to the Forum, the credentials of the new Emir give it confidence that he is well prepared for the demands of the throne. It highlighted his academic achievements, practical experience and years of service as qualities that could strengthen his leadership of the emirate.
The Forum specifically pointed to the monarch’s PhD in Computer and Communication Systems and his background in mathematics, computing, engineering and cybersecurity, saying these experiences could help drive greater attention to education, youth empowerment, technology, innovation and sustainable development in Gumel.
The Northern Senators Forum assured the Emir of its continued prayers, support and constructive engagement, while calling on the people of Gumel Emirate to unite behind him. It prayed that Allah (SWT) would grant him wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance as he begins his reign.
