The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, and the Emir of Zurmi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, describing the two monarchs as distinguished custodians of northern Nigeria’s traditional heritage.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the senators said they received the deaths with grief and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani died on September 3, 2026, while the Emir of Zurmi passed away on Monday.
The Forum described the late Emir of Gumel as a scholar, administrator and bridge-builder who carried the crown with humility, wisdom and dignity.
According to the senators, his reign promoted peace, unity and educational development across the Gumel Emirate.
The late monarch was also remembered as a father to all, irrespective of tribe or social status. The Forum said his palace remained accessible to the oppressed and those seeking justice, counsel and intervention.
The senators further commended Dr. Sani for championing modern education, encouraging girl-child education and providing calm and principled leadership during periods of tension. His counsel, they said, influenced a generation of leaders and earned him a lasting place as a guardian of culture, values and religion.
The Forum also paid tribute to Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Emir of Zurmi, describing him as a respected traditional ruler who demonstrated courage, wisdom and commitment to his people, particularly during a difficult period marked by security challenges in Zamfara State.
According to the NSF, the late Emir spent five years on the throne, during which he promoted peace, unity and resilience in the Zurmi Emirate. His counsel and peace-building efforts, the senators said, extended beyond his domain and contributed to wider efforts to restore stability in the North-West.
The Northern Senators Forum condoled the Gumel and Zurmi Emirate Councils, the bereaved families, the governments and people of Jigawa and Zamfara states, as well as Nigeria’s traditional institution. The senators prayed that Allah forgive the shortcomings of the two monarchs, accept their good deeds and grant them Aljannah Firdaus, while giving their families and other mourners the strength to bear the loss.
