As Nigerian workers marked the 2026 International Workers’ Day on Thursday, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, Member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, pledged to champion legislation that guarantees dignity of labour and fair reward for workers in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said: “On this International Workers’ Day 2026, I extend my gratitude and respect to the good people and workers of AMAC and Bwari Federal Constituency. You remain the backbone of our communities and the engine of our nation’s progress.
“You are the hands that teach our children, heal our sick, till our farms, trade in our markets, keep our civil service running, and power our factories across this city. Your daily effort sustains families, drives enterprise, and keeps the Federal Capital Territory functioning.”
He continued: “In this period of economic adjustment, you have carried Nigeria on your shoulders with patience, honesty, and quiet sacrifice. The FCT works because you work, and the nation endures because you do not give up.
“As your Member, House of Representatives, I have continued to legislate and appropriate for policies that make work rewarding in the FCT and across Nigeria. The dignity of labour must be matched by fair wages, safe workplaces, and social protection.”
The legislator concluded thus: “To that end, I have also facilitated investments in vocational training and empowerment, roads, scholarships, and health and education facilities that dignify the worker and the worker’s family. These interventions are designed to expand opportunity and ease the burden on households.
“The labour of our people must produce prosperity in our time. That remains my commitment as we push for reforms that grow jobs, support small businesses, and strengthen public services.
