By Hyacinth Eku, Abuja

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adéọlá, popularly known as Yayi, has been affirmed as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State after a collective agreement by key stakeholders.

Addressing the press while flanked by Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) and Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, Yayi said the decision was taken to ensure the party presents a united front ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

He began his speech by giving glory to God Almighty for what he called “this significant day,” and appreciated the Governor of Ogun State for his “exemplary leadership at this critical time.” YAYI also extended gratitude to APC leaders who attended the State Caucus meeting in large numbers to witness the moment.

The Senator thanked the people of Ogun West for the “historic opportunity to present the next Governor of Ogun State.” He specially lauded Hon. Isiaka and Hon. Akinlade for their “maturity, sacrifice, and commitment” in ensuring the emergence of one consensus candidate.

“There is no winner and no loser. We are one united and indivisible family,” YAYI declared, noting that their collective goal is the unity of Ogun West, unity of the party, and unity of Ogun State as a whole. He stressed that “the state is bigger than any individual.”

Yayi commended the present administration for laying a solid foundation, both infrastructurally and economically, and pledged that his team would consolidate on those achievements. “As a responsible and forward-looking leadership, we are determined to take Ogun State to the next level,” he said.

In his message to residents, the APC consensus candidate assured the people of a new dawn, promising greater development, continuity, and progress. “I deeply appreciate the APC for trusting me with this responsibility. I will not let the party down, and I will not let the people down,” he stated.

He closed by calling on all supporters to “sheathe their swords,” insisting this is not a time for division but for unity. “From this moment forward, we must speak with one voice, act with one purpose, and move forward as one people — for the greater good of Ogun State,” Yayi added.
