As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Onodugo Progressives Movement (OPM), has declared Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu, popularly known as Onodugo, as the leading contender for the Anambra South Senatorial seat.
The endorsement was made by the Secretary-General of the support group, Elder Ogbonna Amaechi, during a ward-to-ward sensitisation tour across Anambra South Senatorial District.
Speaking yesterday in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Elder Amaechi said Senator Nwachukwu’s growing acceptance across communities has positioned him as the clear favourite ahead of the 2027 senatorial election.
According to Amaechi, Senator Nwachukwu’s popularity is anchored not on political rhetoric but on a longstanding reputation for humility, accessibility, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
In a statement issued during the sensitisation exercise, OPM noted that the lawmaker’s name continues to resonate across communities, youth groups, women associations, and grassroots political structures throughout Anambra South.
“As the 2027 Anambra South Senatorial Election gradually approaches, one name continues to resonate strongly across communities, political circles, youth groups, women associations, and grassroots structures: Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu, Onodugo,” the statement read.
The group said his personality is not built on empty promises or political noise, but on a reputation rooted in humility, visionary representation, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
OPM added that across the seven local government areas of Anambra South, many see him as the bridge between the people’s aspirations and purposeful representation.
Amaechi further argued that one major quality distinguishing Senator Nwachukwu is his strong relationship with the grassroots.
“What clearly sets Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu apart is his uncommon connection with the grassroots. Unlike many politicians who only appear during election periods, Onodugo has consistently maintained close relationships with the people,” he said.
The Secretary-General said Nwachukwu’s compassion and people-oriented approach have earned him admiration beyond political affiliations.
OPM also highlighted Senator Nwachukwu’s capacity to drive development and deliver effective representation for the district.
“Ndi Anambra South believes he possesses the experience, exposure, and strategic mindset required to attract meaningful empowerment programmes, infrastructural development, youth opportunities, and stronger representation,” Amaechi stated.
The OPM’s endorsement is expected to further intensify political discussions within Anambra South as stakeholders and political groups begin positioning ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest.
