Ekiti State Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, secured a landslide victory at the polling unit of Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. The result was delivered Saturday afternoon by Polling Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Oregbemeh.
According to the official count, Oyebanji polled 164 votes while his closest rival, Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate Dr. Wole Oluyede, scored only eight votes at the unit. Action Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Ayodeji Ojo, finished a distant third with one vote.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, whose polling unit produced the result, had earlier expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Ekiti governorship election. He commended the impressive voter turnout recorded across the state.
Bamidele also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for the prompt deployment of electoral officials and materials. He noted that INEC’s logistics covered all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State without major hitches.
INEC had earlier put the total number of registered voters in Ekiti at 1,059,360. The commission said 1,028,929 of those voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the poll, setting the stage for the high turnout observed.
Oyebanji’s dominant showing at the Senate Leader’s polling unit adds to early signals from the election, as results continue to trickle in from other units and wards across the state.
