President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as the first elected and second female President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, describing it as a landmark moment for the legal profession.
In a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said her emergence represents “a watershed in the legal profession and a triumph for merit, excellence, and gender inclusion.”
2. The President praised Mrs Badejo-Okusanya’s career, noting that it has been distinguished by integrity, professionalism, and commitment to justice.
“Her remarkable career has earned her the confidence of her colleagues across the country,” the statement said.
3. President Tinubu said the new NBA President’s victory reflects the growing recognition of women’s contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice in Nigeria.
He expressed confidence that her leadership would strengthen the legal profession and promote reforms that enhance access to justice for all Nigerians.
4. The President urged Mrs Badejo-Okusanya to prioritize judicial reforms, uphold the rule of law, and protect the sanctity of the Constitution during her tenure.
He said the legal profession must continue to serve as “a vital pillar of a democratic society.”
5. He also called on her to work with all stakeholders to unify the Bar and address issues that arose during the NBA election.
“I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” the President stated.
6. President Tinubu described Mrs Badejo-Okusanya’s historic win as proof that Nigerian women can attain the highest levels in both the private sector and public service.
“She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions,” he said.
7. The President assured the NBA of his administration’s continued partnership to deepen democratic governance, promote justice, and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.
He said the government remains committed to working with the Association on key legal and judicial reforms.
President Tinubu concluded by wishing the NBA President-elect a successful tenure and fruitful service to the legal profession and the country.
“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. I wish you a successful tenure and service to the legal profession and our country at large,” he said.
