The leadership of the OK-New Nigeria Movement, FCT Chapter, has condemned what it described as unfair attacks and criticism directed at Hon. Chinedu Obika, House of Representatives member for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, and other politicians who recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Mathew C. Chukwuemeka, said the group strongly dissociates itself from the negative characterisation of the new members. He stressed that the party and the Obidient/Kwankwaso movement welcome everyone who joins their ranks, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their decision.
Chukwuemeka called for understanding, noting that many could have made similar choices under the same political conditions. “We are not here to judge or condemn anybody who, having discovered their wrong political move, has retraced their steps to join NDC and the OK movement,” he said.
He warned members against infighting, stating that broader political alliances are needed to challenge the ruling APC in 2027. “We must not be distracted nor lose focus and start fighting those that might have been divinely sent to help us secure victory come 2027,” the statement read.
Describing Hon. Chinedu Obika as “a comrade and a great patriot,” Chukwuemeka said all recent defectors from the APC are highly welcomed. He urged members to emulate Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who, he said, have never spoken ill of the new entrants but received them with open arms.
The coordinator added that more distinguished politicians are expected to join the movement and will be gladly received, stressing the need to forgive, carry everyone along, and remain united ahead of the next general elections.
